The Goddess of the Crossroads - Hekate's Night

Merry Greetings to All!

I've been working on a scheduled newsletter & didn't get it completed for today's deadline. But I wanted to share via Blog at least one point of the newsletter! 🤍

Tonight is Hekate's Night.

It is speculated by some historians that Hekate’s Night was traditionally celebrated at the end of a five-day Samhain Festival in earlier times. Due to the changing calendars, both Julian & Gregorian, the date has now been adjusted to November 16.

This night marks the time when it is said the veil 'closes' and the Leonid meteor showers begin on November 17 & 18 (I hope it's clear skies for viewing).

On Hekate’s Night, also known as Hekate’s Supper, corresponding foods are left out by the front door. This is considered the crossroad between your personal in & out, private & public.

Another option for honoring her on this night & roots of the devotion, is leaving an offering to Hekate at a true crossroads. As she roamed the Earth by night with her sacred dogs, the hope of the offering was inviting her blessings in.

Any crossroad or liminal space is a perfect place to honor Hekate.

Hekate’s light shines bright in dark times. With her torch, Hekate meets us at the crossroads of our path, supporting us in releasing what we no longer serves our higher good. She can assist in opening us up to our true Self. It is said she will show you the part of her that you need the most… and the part of your Self that needs to be revealed.

Working with Hekate can be challenging for many of us would prefer to keep our shadow side hidden from ourselves. The Goddess of the Crossroads is the light bearer, considered to be a guide to our true path and inner wisdom.

Tonight, the moon phase is Last Quarter & is in Leo, a Fire sign. What a perfect moon for Hekate's Night!

What can you do on this night? Below is an Invocation as you leave an offering for Hekate

Hekate's time is that of the Dark Moon, the time of release and renewal. She is honored on the 30th of each month, the Dark Moon and tonight, at sunset on until sunset the next day (each year). The Rite of Her Sacred Fires is on the full moon in May & is an international celebration devoted to mysteries and magic of the Goddess of the Crossroads.

Hekate is the Goddess of the in-between, the liminal spaces, the boundaries and the transitional times of life including birth and death. As a Triple Goddess, she rules the realms of Earth, Sea and Sky… the conjunction of past, present and future… the Heavens/Moon, Earth and Underworld. She is the keeper of the Keys. She carries a torch for illumination, dedicated to our shadow side, guiding us at the crossroads and the path we eventually choose.

Hekate’s origins are mentioned throughout ancient history. She is a Dark Goddess. Both feared & loved. She is perhaps the original Crone, joining other Dark Goddesses such as An Cailleach at the start of Winter. Referred to as the Triformis Goddess, Hekate is believed to be the original Triple Goddess.

In ancient texts for Hekate we find the first of the Orphic Hymns the Hymn to Hekate (11.835 b.C. or 1366 b.C.). Many years later, Proclus writes an hymn for Hekate and Ianus (400 a.C.). The homeric hymn to Demeter (3000 b.C.)is reffering to Hekate and her power as long as her character. In Greek Magical Papyri (abbreviated PGM) the hymn to Selene is an hymn to Hekate (2nd centrury b.C. to 4rth centrury a.C.). Selene and Hekate were the same Goddess.
